Old issue of Bygones, published in Grimsby
« on: Wednesday 12 September 12 13:48 BST (UK) »
Hi,  I know this is a long shot, but I thought I would give it a try.

About three years ago, a picture was published in Bygones, of my father in law, George Norman Mortlock.  The picture was of three men, on a day out from what was Whatmoughs biscuit factory, Great Coates.  My husband had this copy of Bygones, and it was in with some old newspapers, which were accidentally thrown out by me!  It was the only picture my husband had of his father as a young man and so I am quite upset at what I have done.  I have contacted Bygones, but they only keep back copies for a year, so I am hoping that maybe someone else kept this photo due to one of the other men being their family.  I would be eternally grateful to get a copy of this photograph.  I am sorry I don't know the date of the issue.

Thanks in anticipation,
Diana

Have you tried Grimsby Library for a copy of Bygones?
Or writing to a local newspaper asking if they could publish a letter from you asking if anyone has a copy of the photo?

I never thought of Grimsby Library.  I know they have the Telegraph going back for years on microfilm.  I will give them a try.
I could perhaps ask the Telegraph also, if like you said, they would print a request for me.

Thanks for your interest, Diana

I wondered if you have thought about putting up a message with the Grimsby and Cleethorpes History club? They have a community page on Facebook which seems really friendly. A lot of the people who follow that site would be local and possibly have back copies of Bygones.
