Hebrides People Web Site
« on: Tuesday 11 September 12 22:33 BST (UK) »
Hi Chatters

Has anyone used this new website?

http://www.hebridespeople.com/

I just input an 1883 emigration for a family that is well documented (& known to Co Leis Thu) and the search engine came up with no leads at all. I input another known family with an 1884 emigration & got nothing again.

There doesn't appear to be any mechanism on the site for: "Contact Us" either.

Has anyone else had any experience with this site? Is it just me? I don't want to buy credits if it's not fully functional yet.

I have not used the site and can’t comment on it usefulness. The photo on their website is of Northon on Harris. I know that Bill Lawson ran a Western isles genealogy centre based there, and suspect this new site is connected with that venture. See:

I think you need to give them money before any results are indicated.

I had a similar experience to RedMystic. It was my first access to this new site and I tested the quantity & quality of the information made available for £1 a throw! I rapidly got through the best part of £50 but was disappointed with the results which contained incorrect information i.e. information previously recorded accurately in the Croft Histories etc. produced by Bill Lawson. So, at this point in time it would appear that the HP information is not cross-checked with previous publications; rather strange given that it emanates from more or less the same source. Hopefully the HP site will improve over time but I am unlikely to use it unless I think it just might contain that all-important clue to a frustrating mystery.

Hi ammac,

Thanks for pointing out the INNACURACIES and the PRICE. I will be sticking with scotlandspeople.com who are actually cheaper and have proven/visible sources and downloadable!!!!. After all it's the sources/references which are most important for clarifying any doubts while climbing our trees.

Regards,

Anne Marie.
