Cymmer mining accident 15th September 1890

Looking for further information on a mining accident at Cymmer mine, Pontypridd when a John W Roberts died on 15th September 1890. John was from Caernarvonshire, and according to the National Probate Index was a bachelor.

Notes:    He had put up a pair of timbers and was preparing a wedge to fasten it when one arm came out and the collar fell on his head fracturing his skull.

My grandfather was involved as Procurator Fiscal in the aftermath of many colliery deaths in Scotland. He said, bitterly, that if you were to be killed then it was best to be killed with several others because then there would be a public subscription for the widows and orphans.

More helpfully, there has been discussion of a different accident in the Cymmer pit on the Welsh Coal Mines forum, and you may get some hints from there. Thankyou to all of you who replied to my request! The mining disaster webpage seems to class a disaster as more than five people killed, so I guess the incident in 1890 would be classed as an accident. Diolch yn fawr.
