Can't find my grandfather on the 1911 census, even though the rest of the family are living at 18 Cyprus Street, Belfast.  He was William McCann born 1906 and i have his birth cert. None of the other William McCann's aged around 5 or 6 on the census match. Census states 6 children born 4 still alive, and there are 4 McCann children boarding at that address. Was William in the hospital or maybe workhouse? also can't find a birth cert for the John J McCann at that address
Thanks
M

For reference here's the 1911 census for the McCann family- it may be that person filling out the census only counted the 4 children in the household:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Falls__Belfast_/Cyprus_Street/180600

People in institutions are listed under initials so this is a possibility for William- W McC age 4 R.C. born Belfast:

Thanks Aghadowey, I agree it is a possibility, I take it that the work house  records are under the 100 year rule in PRONI? I will email PRONI anyway. Any ideas about John J McCann at Cyprus Street, mothers maiden name was Smyth, I can't find any birth records for him, i take it he was a month old when the census was taken
Thanks again

I recently contacted PRONI about a person in 1911 census that I thought was a missing relative and after a while got back a lovely reply.

The McCann baby in 1911 census might have been registered as 'male' rather than John J.- have you checked the online civil registration index at www.familysearch.org?
