Can this very dark photograph be improved?

Hi Everyone,
Is it possible to make this very dark photograph more attractive. It is my mother and stepfather on their wedding day in January 1958. If colour is possible my mother (the taller woman) was dressed in green. Her hair was dark brown and her eyes green, I look forward to seeing if any improvement is possible.
