There are, unfortunately, scores of men named Albert Robinson in the Medal Cards. It would seem that yours served with a Scottish Regiment - that would eliminate many of them, but you will still be left with a sizeable number of possible contenders.

Some possible strategies:

Absent Voters List of 1918 - if you can get to Newton Heath Library and check if they have the List and then see if you can find Albert listed - it should give at least his Regiment. Try Gorton for Joseph. [A phone call to the relevant libraries might get you what you want]

Did either man marry of have children between 1914 - 1919? If so the relevant certificate may have the information you want.

A long shot - and hard work - is to look through the local papers of the time to see if they are listed: men who were wounded, on leave, were often mentioned - some newspapers even listed everyone in the area who joined up - especially in the early years of the war.

Another angle is to ask the local library if they hold past copies of church magazines 1914 - 1918 - they also often listed men who enlisted.

Having said all that - it is still quite likely that you will not find what you want - it really is a needle in a haystack job, with no certainty that the needle is even there!

Good hunting,

Hi,

in 1911 Albert & Joseph were living at 38 Briscoe Lane Newton Heath Manchester with there family aged 16 & 11. In 1918 Albert married and on the certificate he was living at 30 Francisco Street, Newton Heath Manchester. In 1921 Joseph married and on the certificate he was living at 30 Francisco Street, Newton Heath Manchester.

Using the revelation of Scotch Guards I have found an Albert Robinson on FindmyPast records 'Prisoners of War 1914-1918' Robinson   A. 2nd Lieutenant   16th Battalion. Royal Scots.

I have no credits so could anyone please help determine if this is indeed him?

Dave

No way of telling I'm afraid, it just gives the details you have given plus when and where he went missing and when he was repatriated. It only gives an initial and there are no images.

There is one officer with the Royal Scots who comes up on the National Archives site - unfortunately his first name is Alfred:
