I have a Jessie CUMMINGS b. 1862 Lanarkshire.  d. New Zealand 1944
Parents: Father: Robert Cummings and Mother: Jessie Forest
Came out to New Zealand where the first Jessie Cummings married William McLeod at aged 25 on 7 Oct 1887 Lyttleton New Zealand
These details I viewed on someones copy of marriage.  Have no idea of ship she/they  came to NZ on though have searched
I am wondering if anyone would be able to find some more information on her parents, background etc

There is this possible 1871 entry for Glasgow but mother is Janet

Robert Cumming 38 b Glasgow occ butcher
Janet 38 b Ayrshire
Jessie   10 b Glasgow
Jans?   7 (female) b Glasgow

Looks as if could be it.  I have been told that Jessie and Janet are the same in Scotland

She is still with her parents in 1881 but incorrectly shown as aged 70 instead of 20.  Mother is still Janet b Kilmarnock and sister was Jeanie

Surname is Cumming in 1881 as it was in 1871 so may not be the right family

A basic search on Scotlands People does not show a Cumming/Cummings marriage to a Forest

Just found Robert on the 1861 census and he appears to be unmarried.  Lodging with the Ferguson family

With the info that you gave for Jessie, hard to find any birth registrations with mother showing as either Janet or Jessie FOREST (or variants of this). However, there is more info where mother's maiden surname is RICHMOND. Could there be a mistake on how Jessie's mother's maiden name has been noted later I wonder 

Do you have an occupation for Jessie's father, Robert that would help you tie up with the info Carole has found?

She was born Lanarkshire, Scotland
Fathers' name Robert Cummings, Sheep Farmer,
Mother Jessie Cummings
Mothers maiden name: Forrest.

William McLeod's Death Cert;
Records her as 2nd Marriage
Married Lyttelton NZ
To whom he was married:  Jessie PAGE

On the death cert someone has circled Page with a ? alongside and then the written in Cummings
 
I found her baptism:
Name: Jessie Forrest
Birthdate 28 Jan 1862
Place: Central District Glasgow Lanark Scotland

What appears to her mothers marriage to a
Groom: Nicol Page
Bride Jessie Forrest
Marriage date 16 Mar 1866
Place: Milton, Glasgow Lanark, Scotland

I suspect that Jessie Cummings was actually born Jessie Forrest (parents not married) The father would not be included on the birth registration if her parents were not married and the father not present at registration.

There is a marriage 16th March 1866, Milton, Glasgow, Lanarkshire between Nicol Page & Jessie Forrest. It is not uncommon for children to adopt their reputed fathers surname ie Cummings

The 1871 Scottish census has Nicol & Jessie Page with, amongst the children, Jessie Page age 8.
