Quorrobolong, Quarrobolong
« on: Thursday 06 September 12 01:29 BST (UK) »
Hi I am looking for anyone who has an ancestor in the Quorrobolong Cemetery NEW South Wales. According to many departments this cemetery does not exist, but it did. A lost and forgotten place. I am looking for anyone who has information about an ancestor in this cemetery.
Persons so far are Susannah Sharpley died 7 May 1859 ( 58 years) and Catherine Crofton died 22 September 1860 (16 months).
Thank you

Hi merlinmagic :)

Have you had a look on the parish maps for Quorrobolong, online here: http://parishmaps.lands.nsw.gov.au/pmap.html

You might spot the cemetery on one of the earlier maps.  Was it an "official" cemetery, do you know, or a private burial spot (on a property, for example)?

Hi
Thanks for your comments. We know approximately where it is, the lands department says it does not exist The councils say it does not exist, the church says it does not , we are trying to find out about how many were buried there. It did exist. About he only way we are going to know who is buried there is to ask family historians if they have an ancestor buried there according to the death certificate
Cheers

There is a tape of an interview with a Quorrobolong resident, Ted Heaton, on Australian Tales

http://pandora.nla.gov.au/pan/100781/20090610-1630/hosting.collectionsaustralia.net/newcastle/greta/oral/tape109a.html

One of the key tape positions
is 062 Location of old Quorrobolong Cemetery

It's on an archived website.  http://trove.nla.gov.au/website/result?q=%22quorrobolong+cemetery%22~8&l-urlKeyDomain=100781

Not sure if it is much help other than as anecdotal evidence of its existence

Hi
We know approximately where this old cemetery is but it looks like it has not been used since before 1900.  Graves dated 1860 and 1859. We are trying to find out who else may be buried there. It is now on private property and the headstone found were buried under a few inches of earth. Anyone with a death certificate that states the burial took place at Quorrobolong is what we are after. When did it cease to be used.
We are pleased to have responses to this chat site, thank you all .

I'm afraid I don't know ...  Hopefully they have kept these tapes as they sound like a valuable family history resource but the links to them were on archived websites.

I just thought it added "weight" to the evidence of its existence by the fact that Quorrobolong cemetery was an issue of discussion.

(What a great name - Quorrobolong  ;D )
