Trying to Identify Photographs Decade
« on: Wednesday 05 September 12 18:04 BST (UK) »

It says, "Frankfort am Main" on the back, obviously German. The photo is on a heavier kind of almost cardboard. I do not have additional information such as rounded corners, etc as I do not have the original, just the digital. This photograph, as shown, is all I have, no additional information. I know that these are my relatives somewhere in the 1800s, but was hoping to identify the decade to further identify them.

Their clothing, however, should be helpful in identifying it.

I've put the picture off this website because the digitial is 6 MB, too large for the cap here.

Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave :)

The photo you have looks like a reprint and possibly an enlargement of the original.  The original seems to have been taken in the 1860s but I am basing that solely on the appearance of the dress and hairstyle of the lady.  I could be completely wrong about this, as we need to take into account the fashions in the area the photo was taken, which I don't know anything about.  Therefore the photo could have been taken later.

Sorry, not much help!
