Hi, could anyone give me some help or advice regarding baptisms in Waterford using the above website (via RootIreland ie)

I have in the past purchased credits to find marriages, and they confirmed information I already had regarding partners maiden names. What is confusing me now is - when trying to find baptisms for their children using the free index search and entering all known details, I'm getting no hits. If I omit the mothers surname. I do get results, and can narrow it down to more or less exact dates, using both SSI and exact match searches.

This appears to happen when searching for both my paternal and maternal grandparents children, even though I'm almost 100% sure the mothers surname is correct.

Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Regards, Mike

The surnames, which I am interested in are; Maternal side: Ryan, Kevin, Grant, Grady, Gleeson, Walsh, Dwyer, Paternal side: O' Dwyer, Woodlock, Rochford & Britton - all in Tipperary; and Kelly and Hoynes in Laois.

Ryan, Campbell, Luttrell, Grant, Grahame, Bainbridge and Brown in Queensland, Australia

Tighe in Victoria, Australia.

Grant in Philadelphia, Sullivan and Penny in New York; and Britton in Connecticut

Are these CofI or RC baptisms ?

CofI baptisms dont usually include mother's maiden name, so a maiden surname search will not work for these.

That said I have had problems with maiden name searches for RC baptism searches at times using the free index - so maybe there's a problem in the main search also.

Have you tried narrowing down the search to one parish to see if the result still show up ?

I am a newcomer just starting to trace my tree.  I don;t have much info but am looking for the Kiley family from County Waterford.   My grandfather was Martin Kiley and he had two brothers Tom and Jim.  They were all born in Swansea, South Wales but their father came from somewhere in Waterford.  I don't have any other information, not even my great grandmothers name.  Can anyone help please.  My grandfather was born in 1897.

the place to start would be with a marriage record for Martin, or one of his brothers, to establish some details about their father - marriage cert should show his name & occupation.

Next step would probably be a search for Martin's birth cert in Wales, which would give a more detailed address etc - this detail could then be useful in searching for your Kiley family on the census returns in Wales to confirm where Martin's father and mother came from.

Once you have the details of Martin's mother and father you could check to see if they married in Wales - their marriage record would give you details of their fathers etc...

There is the following family on the 1911 Wales Census. Could be a good possibility.

Information removed. May we remind you that RootsChat's position is that no 1911 census look-up requests are allowed.

Thank you so much this Kily family exactly matches what I already know.  Am I right in saying that I now need the birth certificate of both James and Mary in Waterford to determine their parents?
