Hello List
Trying to find the parents of Edward Maxwell COPELAND b abt 1826 Ireland.  Married to Mary OSBOURNE b 1835  d 1877 Glasgow.
In 1861 census he is listed as a Seaman born in Ireland.

Very grateful for any help.

It will be difficult to find information without a location to start with- have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hello Tara

Thank you for your reply.

No I haven't got his marriage cert because I am carrying out this research to help a disabled friend and have only just taken up the case.

Plus, I don't have the cert. details to order one from the GRO. It looks like that might be my next step.

Mike

Hi Mike,

I'm afraid that I'm not good with Scottish records.

Maybe if you post your marriage query on the Scottish board first.

Then when you get the marriage cert that should have his father's name and occupation on it - then come back to us to see can we help.

Our civil registration only began in 1864 so obviously Edward was born well before this so you will be looking for a baptism for him.

As Aghadowey has said this is going to be super hard without you having at least a county in Ireland of origin for him.

Hello Tara

I have just posted my query to the link you gave me.

They were looking for his death so they might know who his parents are.

Hi
My ancestors are the Copelands from Ireland.  I have been told that the Copelands first came to Ireland in the 1300's. They supposedly emigrated from Scotland. They may be related to Laird John de Copeland. I am trying to verify this information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
Bida
