F. Clark "THE KING'S" (L'POOL) REGT. (20TH BATT.)

I am trying to track down the casualty details for Pte F. Clark of The Kings (L'POOL) REGT. (20TH BATT.)

On the Liverpool Town Hall roll of honour database (Hall of Remembrance) there is a Pte. F. Clark and a Pte. F. L. Clark listed. However, the only Private F.Clark listed on CWGC and Soldiers Died relates to Service No. 22647 (F.L.Clark).

I wonder if anyone may have any information (date of death, age, parents names and address etc) for the other F. Clark?

Are they both supposed to be Kings Liverpool 20th Bn?  There are some others for Lancashire Regiments listed.

Thanks Milly for your quick and thorough response which I believe gives me the answer to my question.

Although it differs from the Hall of Remembrance, CLARK   FRED   F   23      21/03/1918      202679 is from Edge Hill (Liverpool). The F.Clark that I am interested in was employed as a Locomotive Cleaner by the LNWR at Edge Hill. I checked the 1911 census and found Fred Clark, occupation: Engine cleaner, son of Isabella Clark, living at an address in Wavertree - which is close to Edge Hill. This ties in with the information you provided.

The anomaly in relation to the Hall of Remembrance database, is that he served with the East Lancs Regt. Either he is a different (additional) F.Clark to the one recorded , or I tend to suspect that he is incorrectly recorded as serving with the Kings Liverpool 20th Batn.

I am sorry to say that the Town Hall  Roll of Honour is full or errors, having been compiled from information provided by families, and possibly with no checking.  For the same reason there are many duplications.

Glad you now have the right chap. I thought that maybe he may have transferred from the Kings Liverpool at some point but his medal card just has the east Lancs Regiment on it so probably not - and just an error.

There is another factor.  On 8th Feb 1918 the 20th Battalion KLR effectively ceased to exist as a result of the reduction in numbers of battalions in each division.  Maddocks's history of the Liverpool Pals states that on the next day drafts of the disbanded 20th moved off to be distributed among the other three Pals battalions.  It is possible that Pte Clark missed out on this and found himself with the E Lancs, perhaps after a spell of leave or treatment for wounds away from his original unit.
