Patrick Hannon
« on: Saturday 01 September 12 13:21 BST (UK) »
Trying to trace `any` records for Patrick Hannon (my great grandfather) possibly born 1868 Kildorrery, County Cork. I have found `possible` parents for Patrick - Daniel Hannon & Margaret Sisk no dates of BMD for either.
Patrick Hannon`s son Thomas Hannon 1886-1942 (my grandfather) is buried near to where I live.
I did (foolishily or not) take on a genealogist based in Ireland who said that she would trace all records for me - but months have passed since and...................................nothing.
And yes I did foolishly send money. Can`t say much else as it is in hands of solicitors.

I`ve been unable to find Patrick on Ireland`s census 1901 or 1911. I`ve been through all the usual websites `roots-Ireland` etc, etc.
I do understand that a lot of records were lost in the 1922 civil war, but no harm in asking.

Thanks in advance for any info.

...

starting at the beginning - do you have a marriage cert for Patrick ?

This should show his father's name and occupation...

I'd start with the marriage record then - do you've any idea where and when Patrick married ?

Patrick Hannon`s son Thomas Hannon 1886-1942 (my grandfather) is buried near to where I live.
........

just to explain my question abut the marriage - I was assuming you have a birth or baptism record for Thomas which would show his mother's name .. and help hence locate the marriage for Patrick..

Unable to trace who Patrick was married to or obtain where married. Unable to trace/get birth certificate for his son Thomas which would have name of mother on it. I do know that Cork is a big place  ;D.There is one record on ancestry.co for a Thomas Hannon born in Clogheen and the years match - but so do several others.

Not to worry though. Maybe I`ll treat myself next year with a trip to the Emerald Isle  ;D

unfortunately quite a few registration districts in Co. Cork, and also a common surname in the area..

You didn't mention where Thomas ended up, but if it was England, Wales or Scotland then it's worth checking the 1911 census, if you haven't already, to see if a more detailed place of birth is listed.

Hello,

Firstly, sorry to hear that you have had trouble with someone here in Ireland regarding genealogy lookups. But I've just had a quick look on www.rootsireland.ie in the Cork section, and have found a Patrick Hannon with those parents you have given:

Church Baptism Hannan Patrick 1868 Kildorrey (RC) Co. Cork with parents being Daniel Hannon and Margaret Sisk. I have also found 4 other children born to those parents also:

Honora Hannon 1869 Kildorrey (RC)
Mary Ann Hannon 1870 Kildorrey (RC)
Margaret Hannon 1873 Kildorrey (RC)
Ellen Hannon 1877 Fermoy (RC)

There's a Patrick Hannon here on the 1901 Census in Kildorrey, Co. Cork http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Cork/Kildorrery/Quitrent_Mountain/1152297/ and in 1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Cork/Killdorrery/Quitrent_Mountain/438025/ but I don't think he's yours.

Really hope this helps you in some way,

Annie

I think the problem at the moment is that there's is not enough information yet to establish a link to that, or any other couple as parents for John's gt-grandfather Patrick.

A few more details and certs for the known ancestor, i.e. Thomas, might be be the way to progress this search..
