You can check if the death occurred in BC at this link. It will give you the location and date. You could then contact the relevant public library and ask if they would look for an obit. If one is found you can then try to find descendents through Canada411, which is the telephone directory and will provide contact info.

Here is the link for Manitoba Vital Stats. Unfortunately, only deaths that occurred more than 70 years ago are available to the general public due to privacy laws.  Each province administers their own stats and sets their own rules about accessibility. You would need to use other means to find info, such as newspaper obits.

Hello Telboy,

First off If you could post the name of the person you are looking for that would be helpful. Most of us on the Rootschat Canada  list by experience know where to direct you in your search.

If you can find him/her on the BC  website posted by polarbear  and get the registration numbers the library that I mention will do a look up.  I have had great success by contacting the Cloverdale Branch of the Surrey Library, they will look up the registration numbers and will email them . The cost is $3.50 Canadian.I have done this for quite a few folks who do not live in Canada and they just reimburse me. If one lives in BC they can go to the Cloverdale library or any other branch that has the microfilm and can print them off for .50 cents either way it is a good deal.

An  exact date of death will be most helpful. Without a date of death most libraries do not have the time to search and they will most likely not be able to help.Keeping in mind that there was not always an obituary.

thanks both,

I know when and where my distant family member died and buried.

William Henry Dangerfield born 1875 Tipton, Staffordshire and died 1947 and buried in Vancouver, I have the details etc of his burial and location along with his wife.

But apparently he emigrated  from UK approx. 1902 to Winnipeg and married his first Wife whom died here.

I believe he had a daughter Doris who I remember meeting in the sixties.

I am trying to find any further relatives from Doris whom I believe is from his second wife and his first marriage, whom I could contact.

Which was I asked for any social sites where a link be found such as Friends-reunited or Facebook etc.

For more details you could look at my previous post:-

Thanks again

Hi!
Do you have a copy of William Dangerfield's obituary from 1947? It may list survivors/descendants, and Doris' married name perhaps.
