Martley Parish Records: GRIFFITHS
« on: Wednesday 29 August 12 22:38 BST (UK) »
I need help to find out more about my (supposedly) ancestors: Richard Griffiths married to Elizabeth Wheeler in Martley abt 9. feb. 1755. Is there any way of finding out when and where they were born, who are their parents etc; Any information of their children is welcome too!
A big thank you in advance.

Shay

Hi There

Im a member of the BMSGH & know that they have transcribed the parish registers for Martley up to 1837 - I have the book & the set of Fiche but if you want to have a good look at them I suggest that you treet yourself to a set of Fiche as they are a very reasonable price & a very good aid to research at Martley - type BMSGH into Google & the society should be the top option so that you can have a good look at its web site & see what bargains there are to be had.

Martley also has its own web site - just type Martley into Google & it should be easy to find from the options you will be given.

All the very best

ps I'm researching Holliday/Halliday at Martley
Worcestershire - Heeks, Maiden, Pinchin, Hartland, Tredwell, Holliday, Morton, Collins, Aldington, Saunders
Oxfordshire - Gomm, Hamblet, Austin, Winter,
Herefordshire - Lowe
Radnor - Lowe, Powell
Gloucestershire - Holliday, Pinchin

Phil, thanks for the quick answer. I am thinking of emptying the bank a little but I'm just curious if the info I'd recieved was correct before paying to get more info :) . My ancestor is Edward Griffiths, baptised in Tipton in 1770, the information I received was that Richard & Elizabeth were his parents. I was wondering if there is a possiblity to find out if he IS their son. There is 15 years from the marriage to his birth. And of course Tipton is Staffordshire, but not so far from Worcester. I thought maybe they could have moved. If you can have a quick peek, I'd be very grateful.
Greetings from Oslo Norway
Shay

Hi Shay

This was done today (4th SEP) from Martley parish register film

Firstly the MAR was on 9 FEB 1796 after Banns not 1755 as you said

Children are
15 MAY 1758 Sarah d/o Richard/Elizabeth Griffiths
31 AUG 1760 Richard s/o    "           "            "
17 OCT 1762 John s/o          "          "            "
19 APR 1764 Thomas s/o      "          "            "
7 DEC  1766 Betty d/o           "          "           "
5 MAR 1769 Mary d/o            "           "           "
13 DEC 1772 James s/o         "          "            "
4 APR 1774 Ann d/o              "           "            "
3 MAY 1776 William s/o         "           "            "

I went on searching till 1784 but stoped then as Elizabeth would have been about 43 when she gave birth to William - I started my search in 1776 by the way

If the marriage was in 1796, would they have had all those children born between 1758 & 1776? :)

Easy mistake with so many dates to write. So you did'nt see Edward born between Mary and James? Pity, that would have fit me great.
Thanks again for your help.
