Might be an idea to try and trace all the other siblings to try and get obituaries to see if any mention Annie  ???

Sister Nellie Russell/Woodward born January 27 1893 in Bilston, Staffordshire, England
and died Oct 5 1990 in Hamilton, Ontario.

Nellie and John Woodward had a son Leslie R. Woodward born Mar 17 1921 in Bilston, Staffordshire, England and died August 11 1992 in Hamilton, Ontario. (tree has photo of him)
Source Anc Tree - you could try contacting the owner of that tree to see if they can help.

Added There seems to be a John A and a Nellie Woodward buried Woodland Cemetery. Wentworth. Ontario  ???

Thanks sandra but have done that. i have located Nellies grandson, he is in hamilton, but he doesnt know any more than me.  its John russells border crossing record and then the subsequent naming of his sister as annie mallaire thats thrown me.  I thought i had found her from the city directory of akron, but, thats just thrown a bigger puzzle.  I do appreciate your help intrying to solve this.

Great finds, Sandra.  Has this been mentioned, yet?
Border crossing
Florence M. Carruthers, born Carlisle, England, age 22, occupation Factory hand(?).  Address: 84 4th St, Toronto, father: Robert Carruthers.  Never in U.S.
Destination: Akron O - Fr - Mrs. Fred Mallaire, 1314 Grant Avenue.  Looks like she will be staying two weeks.
1 July 1921.

The typed information states "arrival contact: Foster Sister Mrs. Fred Mallaire".  I don't see that anywhere on the image.  :-\
Ellison: Co. Wicklow/Canada       Fowley: Sligo/Canada       Furnival: Lancashire/Canada       Ibbotson: Sheffield/Canada       Lee/DeJongh: Lancashire & Cheshire       Mumford: Essex/Canada       Ovens: Ireland/Canada       Sarge: Yorkshire/Canada             Stuart: Sligo/Canada       Sullivan: Co. Clare/Canada      Vaus: Sussex/Surrey      Wakefield: Tuam or Ballinasloe, Ireland              (Surname: Originated/Place Last Lived)  (Canadians lived in Ontario)

Probably no help, but adding it anyway:
Border Crossing, 15 April 1920
Annie Smith, age 40, born Kesh(?), Ireland, husband Chas D Smith.  Lives in Toronto.
Visiting Frd(?) Fred Mallair (Grant Avenue address)

I don't have access to border crossings from the U.S. to Canada.  I wonder if any clues can be found with John Russell's return to Canada?  Or, did Amelia/Annie visit Canada after her arrival in the states?

Hmmmm - foster children - that puts another twist on it Lisa-  dawnj recall you couldn't find the birth of Annie but how many of the other Russell births have you found  ???

Didn't see John Russell border crossing from US to Canada.

The border crossing for Florence M Carruthers says she landed Quebec 1913 on the Hesperian.
Checked that one out - Robert Carruthers was 35 years old and Florence 14 years. There was also a Isabel Carruthers aged 18 years and a bisvuit baker, intended to beome a baker in Canada.  Robert had been a coal-merchant and intended to become a farmer. They were going to Bowmanville. Ontario.

Hi Sandra:
I didn't see anything on the card stating foster sister.  Can you view the image, please, and see if you see anything?

Well done girls to find the carruthers family visiting the mallaires!  The name still has no relevence that i know of in our family??  John russell was interviewed on arrival to buffalo by the border controls. He was admitted to the country after interview and stated the intention to stay for 1month with sister annie mallaire at 1314 grant ave.

I have found today a birth for an annie russell in west bromwich.  After speaking with my mum she believes there was a nursing home for expectant mums in moxley which is on the bilston border however moxley comes under west brom!  It is possible this could be Annie although all of the other children are registered as being born in wolverhampton.
