Edna- perhaps you could post a link to the topic on the other site to save us searching for details already found and advice already given.

As a direct line relative you should be given access to those records - your father willl not be a direct line relative to the person you are enquiring about
above quoted from suzard.

Only an adoptee can access their OWN adoption record, this right can not be passed on to next of kin or anyone else

This is not exactly correct
A descendant of a deceased adoptee can apply - and ask for the magistrate's discretion to release information
It's a little more involved than that but permission is sometimes given  (probably not always -but in my personal experience it was)
There was a campaign a few years ago - don't know if it is still in operation & don't know too much about it- basically for  deceased adoptee's descendants to have same rights as the adoptee re records

So am I right in thinking that I should contact warwickshire county council social services and see what they have to say as I and the kind people on here trying to help have a starting point and to make sure all the facts I have that all come from official paperwork are correct ?

I think you should do as suzard says Dave and try to get access to the records as she did and as she had instructed you to do.
I constantly hear that only the adoptee can see the record and not the family so would be interested to hear how you go on with it.

Ok Edna I will speak to them first thing tomorrow if there in and if not first thing Monday and I will be visiting the records office on Saturday the eighth as its the first chance I will get to go over, which is all very weird as the 8th is the first anniversary of my mom departing us
