Cramlington Cemeteries
« on: Tuesday 28 August 12 11:33 BST (UK) »
Are there any residents of Cramlington, Northumberland who could inform me to the whereabouts of any and all cemeteries in Cramlington; bar Mayfield which I'm already aware of.

I'm trying to find the grave of my 4xGreat Grandfather James Scougall/Scougale (born 1818) but without any immediate access to the area of his death and burial it's a difficulty.

St Nicholas church graveyard, Cramlington. Burials recorded up to at least 1946 ( details available
at Northumberland County Record Office at Woodhorn.

It will be difficult without idea of time of death !

Sorry I know he died in Shankhouses, Cramlington in 1890 buried around July 30 1890. But I'd just like to find out where his actual grave is.

I'm guessing its most likely in Mayfield?

hi keiren,

Mayfield cemetery didnt open until the early 1900's, so i would assume he is buried in St Nicholas church yard.

If you can give me a couple of days i will go have a look for you, as i only live round the corner from Mayfield and about a 5 mins walk to St Nic's

regards

Thanks a lot, I'm looking for the grave of James Scougall  could also be written as Scougal or Scougale.

He died 1890 and was born abt.1818.

I'm not 100% sure on his burial but I believe it was around July 30th in Cramlington and that he died in Shankhouse.

With church graveyards running out of space, the solution, civil cemeteries,
were being established from circa 1860s.

Blyth civil cem ( The Links) started c1860. To serve the west side  of Blyth area,
a civic cem was started in Cowpen ( at Malvins Close) c1870s.

Lou says Cramlington had to wait until early 1920s for it's civil cem at Mayfield.

Distance from Shankhouse to Cowpen civil cem was less than 4 miles.
Distance from Shankhouse to Blyth Links cem was a similar distance.

James Scougall's second wife was Mary Ann Scougall ne้ Haldane.

As for these civil Cemeteries, do you know the exact location of where I can find them?

Here are the Postcodes for three cemeteries......

   Cramlington, Mayfield.  NE23 2AJ
   Blyth, Cowpen              NE24 5SZ
   Blyth, Links                   NE24 5JP

You could use Google Maps together with Postcodes, to view sites of cemeteries.
