Bebington Cemetery LOOK UP Please
« on: Monday 27 August 12 01:15 BST (UK) »
Hi!
I am looking for my ancestor Amelia Agnes Hollis (nee Thompson Fitzgerald) who died on the 1 Aug 1908.  I am not sure what religion as she was non conformist and then claimed to be married to a Thomas Hollis religion unknown.  Thank you kindly, Jo Aus

Hi Geoff, I do have quite a bit on Amelia, and her death cert doesn't mention where she was buried.  After doing research of the local cemeteries, this seems to be the most likely of where she would be buried.  I have all her census info, and her hubby Thomas (they never married) actually drowned in the water whilst fishing!  I am really hoping that she had a headstone.  She was living with her daughter Agnes and son in law Olphert Grayson (Ebenzer st tranmere) when she died.  Would love to find her burial :)

Hi Jo

When they were in Wales, after William F's death, which would have to be between 1864 and 1867 there is a possible marriage:

Q2 1865 Hollis Thomas & X (can't find a wife), Wrexham, mar. V 11b, P 565. Wrexham district spans part of Cheshire too.

I think you may have to hope that someone with more local knowledge sees this, to determine the burial details. She's not on the NBI.

Good luck
Geoff

Hi Jo

What was her address on the death certificate?  If it was Derby Road or Church Road it could be the Union Workhouse. By 1908 workhouses started using street addresses and if she died in the hospital part of the workhouse she could be buried at Flaybrick Hill cemetery or even elsewhere if a family member organised the funeral. My greatgrandfather who died there in 1919 is buried in Wallasey Cemetery

Thanks for your replies.  Thomas and Amelia didn't marry, he died as an unmarried man.  We were aware of that marriage but it didn't fit with her timeline.

Amelia's address was 12 ebenzer st South tranmere.  She was living with her Daughter Agnes Grayson and Son in law Olphert. :)

Hi

I think Bebington Library has films of the Bebington Cemetery burial registers. Wirral Libraries may be able to help particularly as you know the date of death. The lnk below has an application form, it is near the bottom of page. Give as much information as you can (including address at death) and tell them you think she was non-conformist as I think there are separate films for C of E, Catholic and non-conformist.

Hi Jo

I don't know if you have found out any more but I was able to look up the burial records for you today at Birkenhead Library.

You are correct - Amelia was buried in Bebington cemetery (C of E section).

Fortunately there is a headstone at the cemetery and I've taken a couple of photos for you.
Amelia is buried with Joseph and Mary Jane Davies.

If you would like to send me a personal message with the details of your e-mail address then I'd be happy to forward the photos to you by email.

Hope this helps.
