Long Term Illness
« on: Thursday 23 August 12 10:45 BST (UK) »
Hi to all Rootschatters

Sorry to have to say but whilst away on holiday at our usual place in Bath, Somerset, I unfortunately had cause to see a local doctor whilst there as i was getting a lot of double vision and loss of energy (which i had put down to Old Age).
He diagnosed that i had "Myasthenia gravis" which is very rare as it only effects 1 in 20,000 people. Basically it means my immune system is attacking itself by corrupting/blocking the messages from my brain to the muscles causing them to weaken and waste away.  Treatment is available but takes from 2 to 5 years to be effective, depending of course how far advanced it is at time of diagnosis. - so its going to be a long slow slog to get well again.
Worst part of the disease is the double vision and no strength in my jaw muscles to chew food and i even have trouble twisting the top of a cartoon of milk now

Please forgive my absence and support the fellow mods who will be temporay looking after my boards

Thank you in advance

Sorry to hear this, Chris. How lucky you were to see a doctor who obviously knew what he was doing, especially as it wasn't your own doctor.

Hope all goes well.

Chris,

So sorry to hear this.  Your thorough research and quick responses were so much appreciated.

Take it one minute at a time - each one will be challenging.
