New York Death Certificate?
« on: Thursday 23 August 12 10:29 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Re: Michael Blackburn b.1863 Ireland
I know that he was in Brooklyn, NY for 1900 Census and the only death record that would fit in with his age (6/7 years off) appears on the Italiangen site.

Blackburn Michael, 72 y Died Mar 10, 1943, 5937, Kings, B421

Where can I order the death cert - on line?  Should it show the names of his parents?

I have been in touch with the family of the only other Michael that fits age wise in the NY census records but they don't have the names of Michael's parents either.  I can't locate the marriage record either of this Michael to Katherine in 1901 so the death record might be my only chance of confirming his parents.
Many thanks,
Blackburn(e) - Limerick/Tipp, Illinois, Victoria
English, Gleeson, Kirby, Conway - Pallasgrean
Knox - Inch St Lawrence
McGrath, Bourke, Ryan - Emly

http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vitalrecords/death.shtml

That site gives information about ordering the death certificate.  I expect it would have a space for parents' names, if they were known.

Mary Blackburn age 5 New York (daughter)

Helen Blackburn age 10 months New York (daughter)

1920 Brooklyn Ward 22, Kings

Hello Ray,

Yes, this is the Michael who I think died in 1943.  I have tried unsuccessfully to purchase the death cert on line as each time different ccards have been rejected.

I know my Michael, age 29 was living with his brother Edward for the 1900 Census in 12th Ward, Kings.  The only other Michael that matches age wise is the Michael in your Census records.  So I was hoping to get confirmation on either the marriage/death record provided of course the names of the parents or his native county is stated.

Thank you for your input.

Obviously not sure how much you have done on this line, but I think this might be the Edward Blackburn born 1902 New York:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Blackburn&GSfn=Edward&GSbyrel=all&GSdy=1978&GSdyrel=in&GSst=36&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=20398330&df=all&

If this link does'nt work just look for Edward Blackburn, died 1978, New York on the www.findagrave.com

Ray,
Yes, I have already researched this family just hoping that I have the right one!

I will try again to purchase death cert.

Any idea why the marriage record isn't showing up anywhere?

Many thanks,

No idea about the marriage record, but I did purchase a marriage certificate from the NYC archives last year (from the UK).

Hello! I just downloaded the request for photocopies form through the Family Search/LDS website and was able to request copies for death records in Kings County,Ny..as long as you have film number(which the record from Italian genweb shows) then you should be able to request the copy through the mail with a money order(may take longer, but it is cheaper and you avoid using credit card online) there is also a site(use google search for help ordering lds photocopies) that has all the answers for help in placing your order..(site is Cohen's genealogy site at Rootsweb) hope this info helps...Jodi
