Margaret PHILP who married James Williamson in 1779
« on: Thursday 23 August 12 02:42 BST (UK) »
I am searching for anyone with links to this family. I am seeking to confirm if this lady, Margaret PHILP is the mother of 'my' ancestor James Williamson who married Eliz. Whyte in Kirkaldy in 1806.

I am fairly certain this is the correct mother as birth order of children ...confirms. However, final confirmation is needed that this MP died before 1821 when JW senior remarried an Euphemia Stuart (much younger than himself). Both JW's were "Grocers/spirit dealers' in Kirkaldy and son died in 1827 and his father not until 1832. Both left wills listing children ...

Neither John nor Thomas listed below are listed in the will of JW senior. That means that they too must have died without offspring before 1832 will.

This is the information I have:
Margaret PHILP? Married 31 January 1779 in Kinross, (registry says she was from that parish but JW was from Auchterderran)
James Williamson & Margaret Philp's children:
1) James 17 Dec 1779 (chr. 13 Feb 1780) Dunfermline or was it 24 July 1780
2) Christian 24 April 1781 (chr 29th) Dunfermline (further support that this is right couple is that CW who married Robert COCK on 11 July 1800 in Kirkaldy, died in Aug 1836 aged 56). Register lists both fathers but no witnesses or mothers.
3) John born 15 Sept 1783 Auchterderran
4) Agnes 31 May 1785 Auchterderran (an Agnes W is definitely aunt of James and Elizabeth Whyte's children because named on their son's baptism witness)
5) Thomas 7 Nov 1787 (chr 18th) Auchterderran
6) Alexander 8 Aug 1789 Auchterderran
7) Margaret chr. 13 Jan 1793 Auchterderran, married James Westwood of Glasgow, a baker on 11 November 1817 in Canongate, Edinburgh (no image available). They had sons James (1820), Williamson (1822) and Peter (1824) all in Glasgow.

Does anyone know anything about this Margaret PHILP? Her birth, parents, siblings, death ...?

Hoping someone does know something.
Thank you in advance

We are researching James Williamson who Margaret Philp also.  In your posting you are looking for proof that Margaret Philp is James Williamson dob Dec 17, 1779 mother.  We found his birth record on Family Search. Parents James Williamson and Margaret Philp.  We also found their (JW & MP) marriage record on Family Search. Jan 31, 1779 in Kinross, Kinross, Scotland.
Do you have any proof of James Williamson, who was married to Margaret Philip, exact birth date and who his parents were?  We know from his headstone inscription that he was 81 when he died in 1832 which would make his birth year 1751.    So far, we have found 5 James Williamsons born in 1751 in Scotland.
Thanks
Jean & MM
MM and I are also decendents of James Williamson and Margaret Whyte.

can you list the 5 JW's born in 1751 for me. I've found two of those. The Andrew and Helen are unlikely because names not reused in next generation.

Haven't found a death for Margaret PHILP anywhere but JW senior remarried an Euphania Stuart in 1821
Thanks for any help. JW junior married ELIZABETH Whyte (not a Margaret)
