1851 CENSUS - Yorkshire Look UP
« on: Thursday 26 May 05 01:22 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if someone would be able to look up the following for me in the 1851 census,

Matthew Gandley - born in Ireland, is a tailor
Mary Gandley - born in Ireland

Gandley could be spelt Ganly or Ganley, I have even found it spelt Gaudley.

I have found that a son of theirs in later years has put on a census that he was born in York, Yorkshire.  The son was not born until 1853, and the family is in Birmingham by 1861, but perhaps they stopped in Yorkshire first?

Thanks
Karen

I've heared of both of those names, I'm a Ganley, my grandfather is James Ganley, originally from Roscommon, Ireland, he moved to Birmingham with his siblings, Bridget, Thomas and may, there the only names I know, although he had 6 brothers and sisters, they moved to Yorkshire in the 1960's

Hi Danielle,

Thanks for responding.  Have you gone back further with your Ganley family in Ireland?
