St Margaret Leicester. Look up please.
« on: Sunday 19 August 12 20:11 BST (UK) »
I am new to this site and hope someone can help

I have a John Waldram/Waldron born abt 1785/6. He gives this parish of St Margarets Leicester as his place of birth. This shows in the census as well as military records.

I would appreciate if someone could check on this for me.

Hi and welcome to rootschat.

I think Mike would agree with me that just because the stated Church for
Johns baptism is St Margarets, it doesnt mean he was born there?

I found the following family which could be yours.  Born in a small village
and as St Margarets is a Parish as well as a large church they could have
taken him there for a blessing.
Otherwise I cannot find any John around the years you think he was born
in the centre of Leicester.

Family Waldram

John Waldram (b 1758)  married Hannah Wallis ( b 1758)
living at Diseworth, Leicestershire
Children
John 1st August 1781
George 8th April 1784
Phebe  1786
Thomas 1789

A few gaps there so some children may have died young.

The surname changes from Waldram to Waldrom but the parents
are John and Hannah

Thanks so much for the information. The John Waldram I want is married to a Hannah but I found that the John and Hannah Wallis son John dies too early to be the one I want, according to trees I have seen.
I found his children's births for (John and Hannah) = Thomas 1818, Eliza 1822, Sarah 1829 in Breedon on the hill.

Then I found him with another wife Sarah (17 years younger ) but the same daughters, same names and year of birth, in the 1841 census.
The 1851 census shows him as a musician in Belvoir Castle with two Adcock brothers. I wonder if they could be related. I found an Adcock family in Wilson.

I know he lived in Wilson, or his wife did when his son Thomas was born but John's Chelsea pension records show John was born in the parish of St Margaret's near the town of Leicester. He served almost 25 years and left in 1829. He joined up at the age of 17.
So both the census and the military records show 1786.

I am very grateful for your input on this as it is confusing with so many with the same name. But thanks for all your help.
