Any possible help with an inscription please
« on: Wednesday 15 August 12 17:40 BST (UK) »
Hi All.

I took this photograph as it seemed to have some wording on.

The transcriptions by the N.F.H.S. do not list it and therefore
I am hoping it maybe to a person of the surname Bishop.

Not to worry if not possible.

T.I.A.

It's defeated me and my photo fixing software :s If no one else has any luck, could you maybe go back and take another photo, this time cropping the top of the stone out and also with a flash?
I find that makes it easier when I'm trying to get faint inscriptions to show up. The only definite one I can see here is the first name "William"  :-\ Sorry!

I'd agree with william and february. Not sure whether there;s a verse or inscription at the top. you can just see vague outlines and a vague outline of a date at the bottom.

You could try laying a piece of paper over the stone and doing a sort of brass rubbing .. I've tried it myself on a very faint and damaged inscription and it came up surprisingly well

Another possibility to show the inscription would be a photo at night with flash taken at a slightly oblique angle - possibly from left and right of the stone. I've seen tht work before :)

Thank you all for your assistance.

I could make out February and was hoping it was a John
so William means it is someone else.

I am afraid it is in a Churchyard not cemetery and difficult
to take a picture of.

Not exactly on my doorstep, yet another rootschatter lives near
so she might be able to help.

Thanks again for assistance one and all.
