My link with Eliza Hartopp 1853 of thirmaston she married Cornelius smith 1842-1935 she was his 3rd wife her father was John hartopp 1811-1874 mother Ann Preston

Hi Ann,
I think I have solved my initial query, as like you mention the William born in 1806 died aged 17, so he couldn't have been mine because mine went on to get married and have children.
So my William was born 1802 in Barkby, parents James and Jane Hartopp.
Interestingly, James Hartopp was born 1778 in Keyham to a John and Mary Hartopp, so he was obviously a brother to your William which would make us distant cousins 

I don't suppose you have managed to get any further back from John Hartopp?

Yes these could be likely Parents for JOHN who Married Mary Searson
Siblings at Keyham;

I always try and find all Siblings to give a likely time-frame for the Marriage of the Parents.

But I cant find a Marriage either c 1735-1738 anywhere in England.

Thanks for that. Yes I'm having real trouble finding them too...I might have to get in touch with the Leicestershire Archives. There is a marriage in 1724 in Woodhouse to an Ann Brown
