Hello all,
recently my mother in law was sent a parcel of photographs from a cousin of hers in England who says they belonged to my mother in law's mother who is deceased. I have been slowly working my way through the photographs helping her put names to faces. Unfortunately we are stumped on a few mainly military ones. I believe that most of the military photos in question date to WWI.
My mother in law's family hail from Co Durham at the time of WWI and had lived there for about 20 years or so, prior to that some came from Dundee and Glasgow and some from around Colchester Essex. My mother in law's father George Wheatly Mackay served in the Durham Light Infantry and saw action briefly in France before becoming a POW. In amongst the photos I have one of him in uniform. However I also have a couple of group shots that appear to have very different uniforms from the one he is wearing.
This photo in particular has no information on the back only a brief note written in pencil which says "I spoiled this group I was laughing all the time Ha Ha" (which at least tells me that the writer was the man seated in front of the tent with the grin he is trying to control! The tent says Troop E and appears to have some kind of crossed swords underneath the words. Would anyone be able to help me at least identify the unit?
Thank you all in advance.
