Lela and Bessie were the 2 surviving sister. Mabel Dietman/Ryckman and husband Stanley were living in Calumet, Lake, Indiana in 1940 but had no children. Mabel predeceased Teddy.

My Dietzman family are Illinois-based.

Thomas, father b.1859, Laura, mother, b.1870, Mabel M. b.1898, Arthur D. b. 1901, Darwin, b. 1091, Lela M. b.1902, Theodore R. b.1905, Frank L. b.1908 and Guy(?) b.1911.

Theodore married Anabel Hiles and lived in East Chicago, Lake County, Indiana.  They moved to Florida circa 1945.  Ted died in 1973 and was survived by Anabel and two Dietzman sisters - Mabel and Lela.

Yes, I guessed they were Illinois based from looking at the census records for a few hours.
Are you saying this is the wrong family  ??? All the names seem to match  ???

Have you looked at the family on all the census  ??? Were there not more children than you mention  ??? The father Thomas J Dietman may also have been married twice  ???

Hello Sandra,

Ho Ho Ho - I hadn't found them in the 1900.  You're quite right of course. Two wives and eleven children, eh?  Fairly normal for the time I suppose.

My interest is Theodore as you know who married Anabel Hiles tho I haven't found their marriage yet.  She was 10 years older than him.  In the 1930 census they live a few streets away from each other in East Chicago, Lake County and in 1904 he's living in her house (presumably married being good church people - according to the memorial when they died in Florida).

Have you any idea how to go about tracking naturalisation papers?  It's Anabel's father I'm after - William Hiles (b.1866 Staffordshire,England) who was supposed to have been naturalised around 1890-1893.  He was my grandfather's uncle and I've got letters from Teddy and Anabel Dietzman written in 1940.  But I've got a bit sidetracked.

How are the Dietzmanns connected to your family tree?   Through Bessie Bell?

Thanks VERY much for all your help, All the best,  Ann

Hi Ann,

No relation to your Dietzman family, just a willing researcher.

Can only see Annabel born 1888 Pennsylvania with Alfred and Kate, unfortunately cannot see one with a William.
Alfred Hiles appears to be the son of Frederick Hiles and Emma Price.  Alfred was born Abertillery, Monmouthshire, Wales. He did have a brother Willie/William born 1866 Rudgley, Staffordshire, England.

William Hiles  - Christening Date: 28 Apr 1867 - Rugeley, Staffordshire, England
Father's Name: Frederick Hiles and Mother Emma.

Marriage of Alfred and Kate - St Louis 13 December 1882
