Hi Andrea,

Please could you tell us where Robert Trudgett was born. And what information do you have about him: do you have him in the census records or are you looking for more on the previous generations?

Jack

Hi Nannagrampy,

Thanks for responding. All I can find on Robert Trudgett is that he was born abt 1811 in Bury St Edmonds, Ingham, Suffolk. He was convicted of theft at age 19 when he was convicted he was found to have stolen bushells of hops. Consequently he was tried and convicted in the Suffolk Courts and was sentenced to 7 yrs in the Colony of NSW in 1830 on the 17th March. The convict vessel was the "Royal Admiral" which left England on the 1st of July 1830.

I'm not entirely sure that his parents were John and Susanna Trudgett nee Alderton and this is what I would like to either confirm or keep trying to find out about his parentage.

So any help you could give me would be very much appreciated.

Thanking You

christenings of children to John Trudget and SUSAN Alderton in ,Suffolk
23rd june 1793 in Great Barton - John Trudget
2nd august 1795 in Ingham - James Trudget
1st april 1798 in Ingham - Sarah Trudget
21st October 1800 in Ingham -Maria Trudget
30th march 1803 in Ingham -William Trudget
6th November 1804 in Ingham - George Trudget

so - please don`t be offended - can`t find a Robert Trudget - and if he was born around 1811 - that`s 18 years after John and Susans first born in 1793 .

1st August 1792 - John Trudget married Susannah Alderton in Ingham,Suffolk
John Trudgett b 1766 in ingham,Suffolk

hope this helps
regards
allan

Dear Allan,

Thankyou very much for posting. I'm not offended at all infact I'm now wondering if Robert Trudgett could be the son of one of John and Susanna's children???? I totally agree there is too big a gap in yrs..

Did Robert by any chance come back to England ??

Robert Trudget b 1810 in Royston ,Cambridgeshire .....is 71 in 1881 census in England

Royston Cambs ( now Hertfordshire) - is 75 miles from Ingham Suffolk ...could John / Susan have been family and he went there to Ingham for work ??

big IF ...but maybe a possible....if Robert was convicted 1830 ...see if you can find Robert Trudget b 1810 in the English 1841 /51 census returns ...if you can`t find him , it may be your Robert

Thanks Allan,

No my Robert Trudgett never returned to England. He married after he got to Australia and died in 1871 in a town called Orange NSW here is Australia. I will do a search on the census in the yrs you suggest to see what I can come up with. This is all very new to me and I tend to get a little confused with Parishés and counties in the UK.

Hi,

All the baptism records I can find online for Ingham end in 1804 :(

Suffolk Record Office seem to have Ingham Parish registers on microfiche/film,

It might be worth giving them a call to see if they can help, I've not dealt with them before but I have found that some record offices will do a quick look-up for free if you know the name, date and parish :)

Good luck.

Thanks so much for the information Daisypetal. I live in Australia so I will try to look up their number online and see if I can't call them.
