Grimsby fishermen
« on: Sunday 12 August 12 17:11 BST (UK) »
Hi
i am " Brickwalled" regardin an  EDdward  Collins.  I have  his  wife  and  children  on all the  cenus  for  Grimsby.  He   is  not  on  one .  So I  presume  he  was  at  sea  on  all the  census   nights.   I  cannot  find  his  date  of  birth  or  place  of  birth  due  to  this.

His  Wife  is  Mary Born 1861 Grimsby. They  married  in  1877  I know   Edwards  father  is  John.  They  had  children Louisa   Beatrice ,  Harold  and  Arthur.

Is  there  any way  I  can  find  out  any  further  details  regarding  him.  I  have  searched  census  for  Edward   and  father  John  etc   but  no  luck.

Thanks

The archives office in Grimsby have the fishermans apprentice records.
Maybe you will be able to find him there.
The papers have the date of birth and where they where born.

Hi again, I was wondering if this could be your Edward and Mary Collins.
The age is about right for Mary.

Edward Collins died 8th January 1923 age 70
Wife Mary died 1st March 1923 age 62.

They are buried in Scartho Road cemetery, and have a memorial stone that says it was from....Fellow Workmen GCR Dockgate Staff.

There is a possibility given the memorial by GCR (Great Central Railway) Docks staff that records about him exist at Kew amongst the railway records. It is important to remember that pre the 1939 war railways had a far wider scope in society than today, and ran docks, ferries, hotels quarries bus companies and many other operations that the rail industry is no longer involved in. This often means that staff records from these undertakings are held at Kew with the rail industry records.
