Just to update this post on our progress since our launch on 1st September.

We have added the following in the last few weeks:

War grave information for those from Lurgan who died in both World Wars.

The Lurgan Town Trade Directory for 1880. Approximately 350 names.

The Brownlow Rent Rolls for 1635 and 1667.

The Tithe Applotments for 1828 to 1835

The Hearth Tax Rolls for 1664.

We have also been given many photos of Lurgan and the surrounding areas and some Headstone images for Shankill and Dougher Cemeteries in Lurgan which will be live soon.

Any other photos or documents would be very much appreciated. We are unable to publish any copyrighted material without the written permission of the copyright holder.

Thank you so much for collecting all this information, I have been trying to get information on the old Shankill graveyard for sometime,  without and results. As I am trying to get information on the Grayson family from Boconnell Lurgan and I have just found a headstone for the Grayson family on your site.

Can you tell me if the headstones in the Old shankill graveyard have been transcribed, as I am also trying to get me grandmother Elizabeth Gracey/Grayson whom I know was buried their in 1929 aged 36.

With regard to your question, we don't have any transcriptions for Shankill available at the moment, but would love to have them if any kind soul out there would like to contribute them.

We have just launched our Lurgan Births Index. We currently have 1300 birth records which is approximately 3,000 names. We are adding new content daily.

I can hardly believe that it has been a year since we re-launched the Lurgan Ancestry website first stated by Martin McGoldrick, what a roller-coaster ride it has been.

We have now completed all of the information on the original lurganancestry.com website and have added searchable databases for the Griffiths Valuations, Tithe Applotments and Hearth Taxe Roll records.

You can search through the 1901 and 1911 all Ireland census directly within the website via our link with National Archives of Ireland website. We have added many historical articles about Lurgan, Armagh and the troubled times their people have lived through. Our photo galleries include School photos, Lurgan Places and Lurgan people and we would welcome any photos you would like to add.

Recent eadditions include the launch of the Lurgan Ancestry Forum, additions to the War dead from both World Wars. Various Lurgan Trade Directories and the 1959 Street directory of Lurgan. We have a number of History and Genealogy E-Books, including Passenger Lists and Parish Records.

Our Birth Records Index has in excess of 9500 names and we are adding more on a daily basis. We are now working on the Marriages Database, which we hope to have live soon.

As usual we would welcome any information, maps or photos that you would like to add the the website. Here's looking forward to the next 12 months!!

We have recently added a series of Gravestone images to lurganancestry.com  kindly donated by Barry McConville. We are now working on Lurgan and Aghagallon Cemeteries. So far we have images and inscriptions for:  Donaghcloney. Dougher, Kilwarlin, Magheralin, Seagoe, Shankill and Waringstown Cemetery. We have also extensively updated our war-graves for WW1 and WW2.

If you have any gravestone images or inscriptions to add to Barry's amazing pictures, we would love to have them.

Hi Ken,

Just wanted to say Congratulations on your 2nd Anniversary.

I have just had a look at your site for the first time (don't know how I missed it before), and was thrilled when my GG Grandparents, James Hamill and Sarah Anne Laverty were at the top of the list.  This is not something that happens often.

Anyway, I have just noticed that you also have Hamill interests, and I wondered if we had any in common.

Thank you so much for your kind words about lurganancestry.com, I am so glad that you have been able to find some of your ancestors there.

Yesterday we launched the Lurgan Deaths Index, a database of deaths in the area and I am adding names to it and the Births and Marriages databases as often as possible. You can find the deaths index here: http://www.lurganancestry.com/deaths.htm

I'm afraid I haven't progressed very far with my own research, but I do look out for them as I add new records to the website! My Great Grandmother was Annie Hamil(l) sometimes spelt with two l's, from Derryinver. On the 1864 Griffiths Land valuations there is also a Bernard, Catherine and William Hamill from Derryinver, but I do not know their relationship. I would love to know if you can make a connection as I have hit a brick wall with the Austin name and would like to investigate the Hamill line.
