Thom's 1930 lists a medical practitioner that might match that...

  Miss H. Aughney, M.B., B.CH., D.P.H., N.U.I

her practice is located in Tullow.

this could be her on the 1911 census

  Aughney household, Roscat townland, Co.Carlow

i found Honoria Aughney in the 1831 trade directory...Abbey St.,...Physicians & Surgeons(Tullow)

as Patrick was 50 in 1911,he would have been born c1861....Michael was born in 1859..could they be brothers?

i would be as well getting both their birth certs to see if parents were John and Alicia, wouldnt i?

I've seen that webpage before, it's on www.From-Ireland.net. There's a typo in the heading - it should read 1931

Hi Elaine,

My rule of thumb is that I HAVE to have all the certs for my direct blood line, eg births, marriages and deaths.

I have learnt to accept that if I can't get paperwork to prove a direct blood line back then I have to leave it at that.

You'd be amazed at the amount of people who don't have certs for their blood lines and just work off family stories. This is a silly game to play, as you see time and time again when family stories prove to be incorrect.

After that then I usually get the marriage certs for siblings.

So re the Aughney's I would get at least the birth cert for Mary Anne (who I think you said is the first from this family related to you)

Then her parents (Michael & Catherine's) marriage certs and death certs, and baptismal certs if possible.

Then as Blind John and Alicia were born and married so far before civil registration you won't be able to get births or marriages, well their death certs.

Tara

I have Michael & Catherines firstborn as Mary...is she called Mary Ann?...its down as just Mary in 1901 census.

I know her parents were Michael and Catherine Aughney(nee Byrne)because its on Catherine(Katie)s' birth cert in 1897.

I have copies of blind John and Alicias death certs.

On family search,I found film nos.,volume nos.,page nos.,digital folder nos and image nos for a John Aughney,b.c1817.,d.Carlow 1907................Patrick Aughney,b.c1814.,d.Carlow 1880.................Mary Aughney,b.c1821.,d.Carlow 1908.....will get copies of certs to see if they siblings.

found Alicia Aughney,b.c1820.,d.1901......getting copy of this cert to see if this is Johns' wife, mother of Michael.

also found Michael Aughney.,b.c1859,d.1941,Carlow............Patrick Aughney,b.c1858.,d.Carlow 1928............Catherine Aughney.,b.c1858.,d.Carlow 1951......getting copies of these certs to see if they siblings.

Cant find a marriage for John and Alicia or for Michael and Catherine.

...

word of warning about death certs - they dont give very much detail, so you may not be able to establish if these people are related or siblings, especially as they are adults and probably not living at their ancestral home.

Marriage or births certs (if possible) are better for establishing connections... see details on certs in reply #23

note the film, digital folder and image numbers are FamilySearch internal references and not relevant to the GRO.

Hi Elaine,

Sorry I was typing that lest message from memory and I thought it was Mary Anne (my mistake)

This is the marriage details for Michael & Catherine

Michael Aughney
Date Jan-Feb-Mar 1883
District: Carlow
Volume: 3
Page: 339

You won't get John and Alicia as they married WELL before civil registration
