Is it me? Genes Reunited new tree design
« on: Thursday 09 August 12 22:12 BST (UK) »
Apologies in advance if there is already a thread on this - I did a quick search and couldn't see one.

I've not been on my GR tree for a bit and just saw it - quite ghastly.  Horrid little cartoon male and female heads on every entry, and they seem to be wearing fairly recent hairstyles and T-shirts.   Going back to find that my Victorian and earlier ancestors all have the same cartoon image on their 'boxes' on the tree is actually quite upsetting.   It's just so disrespectful to stick images like that on boxes showing my grandparent's birth in the 1880s.

I know that it's easy to resent and resist all new changes but I don't think this is just me being reactionary, or is it?.

Anybody else with thoughts on the GR tree?

Thank you both!   I began to wonder if I was being picky, but I really was upset at the sight of it.

Only problem is that I'm totally non-techy and transferring GedComs etc is a bit of a baffling prospect.  I've now realised, too late, the danger of having all your tree on someone's site so will need to find a good programme to rebuild the tree somewhere where it won't be mucked about with by web designers.

If anyone has any tips or advice, they'll be much appreciated.

I agree with all of you...why fix something that was not broken ::)

GR was my preferred Tree, easy to up-date, very clear to view, plus I could spot any mistake I had made.

I have complained to them about three times, and now they call it improved after listening to our complaints....it is slow and messy.

I am also going to cancel my sub because I actually only stayed a member because I liked their Tree set up so much...time to consider a GedCom.

Amber, ditto!  I always thought their tree was simple to use, easy to navigate and not expensive.
I've just followed their idiot's guide and exported both my husband's and my trees as Gedcoms.   No idea what I can do with them but feel a bit safer having them both as attachments in my email inbox, it's not as if I want to do any more on them in GR whilst they look like that.

The icing on the cake irony is that the e-mails with the Gedcoms attached have come complete with a little teal and purple logo of Victorian silhouettes against the words Genes Reunited - perfectly appropriate and completely unlike the cartoons dumped all over the tree.

Oh well, I've moaned enough for one night - thank you all for making me feel better!

I just wish I didn't have to moan about it, I really did like their Tree...so really I am more upset about how slow,  difficult and messy it is to use now. :-[

I would actually like to be able to purchase the same set of a Tree that GR previously used.

Yes I'm finding the new tree software a pain.I'm in the middle of correspondence now with their "support team".I'm not holding my breath though! My problem is that though the add spouse facility is working the add child one is not.I've tried all the suggestions, adjusting zoom level and compatability but to no avail.
