Where to start?

Being fairly new to this game (!), I seek advice on how to find an illegitimate daughter,name u/k, probable dob 1910 - 1917, maybe Scotland/Yorkshire/Northumberland, with great surname of Mum as Brown?
As far as I can see, just not feasible, or affordable,  to go thro' every recorded birth.  Census records not much help as Mum was 1901 in Yorks., 1911 N/cle, (& 1917, marriage date), & I think, from family talk, Edinburgh in between!
This daughter visited her Mum in Newcastle sometime  late 1920's - 30's, so may have been taken in by other part of Brown family in Leeds/Rothwell area.     Brown family originally from Carlton nr. Leeds.
Any suggestions gratefully received!

Do you know why mum went to Newcastle? Was she working in that census? Perhaps she was sent there in disgrace to have her baby which could give you a clue as to timing and location to start searching.

Hi, Yes, she was nurse, listed in 1911 census as working in N/cle.  I have a gut feeling, that since she obviously had contact later on, that she may have gone home to Leeds/Rothwell/Carlton area for the birth.
UK daughter surfaced at her Mum's funeral in 1960's, much to distress/consternation of her half-brother & sister (both now gone).  No one would talk about her & she's sunk back into obscurity!  My cousin & I are trying to unravel the mystery.
