Gustaf Erik GYLLING and wife Fanny Louise, Laval, Quebec
« on: Thursday 09 August 12 04:23 BST (UK) »
He was Swedish and she was English, maiden name LYALL. Trying to find when they went to Canada and, and how long they lived there. Gustaf died in Honiton, Devon, England in 1914, and Fanny died in Bath,  Somerset in 1937.
Fanny was born in England in 1857 and Gustaf in Sweden (I assume - haven't tackled Swedish records yet) in abt 1854.

Anything will be helpful.
Thank you
Regards
Jan

Hi,

I found these records:-
Gustaf (age 34) and Fanny (age 27), arrrived in Boston from Stockholm on the S.S. Gothenburg, 5 Aug 1884. He said he was Swedish. They travelled 1st Class and said their destination was Canada.

They had a trip to England in 1909 on the Ottawa from Montreal to Liverpool. Then they returned to Canada.

After that, Dec 1911, they arrived in London on the Corinthian from Montreal. They said they were going to London as tourists.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

genie.

Thanks for your time

http://www.automatedgenealogy.com
 - just to add, they can be found on the 1901 census here indexed as Gyllong.
Gives a date of birth for Gustaf, Jun 27   1850, which fits with his age at arrival.

In the 1911 census they are under Gylling in Quebec, and with them is a nephew, Ernest Aguilon, born Nov 1894, Sweden (but listed as "English" and religion Anglican whereas his aunt and uncle were Unitarian), immigrated 1904.

http://www.ellisisland.org/ shows Ernest Aguilon, aged 10, travelling with Agnes C. Aguilon, his mother, from Southampton to New York (previously resident Oxford).

They appear to be together in Headington, Oxfordshire, in 1901 with Finspong (Finspång?) as Ernest's birthplace.

When he died his mother's name is given as "Lyall":
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FLK7-1PL

http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/index.php  - there is a marriage in 1882 in Sweden indexed here for Agnes Caroline Lyall to (I believe) Ernst Otto Johan Aguilon, father Otto Julius Aguilon.

My suggestion would be that Agnes Caroline went with Gustaf and Fanny to Sweden after their marriage in the UK, so wherever the 1882 marriage took place (possibly Finspång?) may be where in Sweden you need to look for Gustaf's family.

Thank you so much for all that - I would never have found her in Oxford - I can't even find her in Enland when she is age 12, after her mother remarried, but am trying her aunts and uncles for this - long job though. Do you have any idea why Ernst and Agnes Caroline would have been married by a British Chaplain (and do you think his surname is Snepp?)  I have looked for a death for Agnes in UK with no luck, so will try BC. Thanks to you I found his wife's birth and death - still looking for marriage.
I looked at BMD Registers site and was  able to find the marriage record for Ernst and Agnes Caroline.

Amazing - you never know where families will end up!!

Thanks again

Ah, how nice! Found this page when googling Gustaf Eric Gylling's name. Just followed his mother's family forward in time in Swedish church records, since I'm compiling the extended Pemer family tree, i e all descendants of our family on all cognatic lines. In the house hold examination book of Lund cathedral parish Gustaf Eric is noted "is said to be married in England", and noted as moving to Gothenburg in 1881. I have descendants noted from three siblings of his.

If I understand correctly, your posts would seem to be from 2012. I await some reactions first.

What I can provide at present is basically Gustaf Eric's line back to the Pemer family particularly, and some other ancestors. The line back to the Pemer family is via families Karth (his mother's maiden name), Meijer and Frumerie. The present prime minister of Sweden is descended from the same line of Pemer-Frumerie-Meijer-Karth, by the way.

No children, right? Or any chance that the poster is a descendant? :D

Hello there,
Not a descendant, he was the husband of my great aunt's grandaughter, Fannie Louise Lyall.

I could pinpoint Ernest Aqiulons birth record in Risinge parish, where the cannon foundry works of Finspång is situated.

"Ernst, born nov 30, baptized Feb 1, parents J O E Aquilon, lieutenant, and Agnes Carolina Lyall, baptism witnesses: widow Fredrique Aquilon, Stockholm, widow M A Morris, USA, merchant Gustaf Gylling, Montreal, Canada, and wife Fanny Gylling, née Lyall, Mrs M E Bieber, née Lyall, principal Harry Lyall, USA."

I searched Aquilon in the Swedish census of 1900. The father is there, now a captain, Johan Otto Ernst Aquilon, born in 1857 in Stockholm, residing at Katrinedal in the town of Karlskoga, remarried, and two children from a previous marriage and a son in the present marriage living with him. His apparent mother, the widow Fredrika or Fredrique Aquilon, born in 1826 in Stockholm.
