Polish search for Snarski and Kupecki?
« on: Wednesday 08 August 12 13:10 BST (UK) »
Could someone please tell me where I would start to search my ggggparents in Poland?
Peter Von Snarski was born approx 1837 to Roman Von Snarski and Anna Von Kupecki maybe in Warsaw  with perhaps royal connections and Roman could have been a Colonel in the Tsar's army. Just have no idea where to begin the search. Peter may have gone to university. Sorry I do not have much to go by. Any ideas on where to begin searching in Poland would be gratefully received. Thanks

Researching polish records on line is a nightmare unfortunately, I am attempting to do the same myself, but it seems the only way to get information is to travel to Poland in person, as hardly any information is available on line. I am also looking for 'Kupecki' family records, as this is my grandfathers surname (how I stumbled across this post). He came over the Britain around WW2, and beyond that hardly any information is known.

If you ever manage to find anything out I would love to know what and where from.

Thanks

Hiya Mr Moose .....and welcome to Rootschat ...my father in law - name Kabluckyj .....I have done quite extensive research about him and I found that
Poland - Ukraine  ....if ( and I hope he wasn`t ) your Grandfather was born in "the strip " - it will be very difficult .......... evidently there is a 40 mile strip on the border of Poland and Ukraine which has changed hands several times ...so Polish - then Ukraine - then Poland - then Ukraine etc etc etc ...so
my Father in law born 1927 in Rogatyn,Ukraine    which is Rohatyn ,Poland 13 years later ....so Town spellings change as well......
do you know what village / town , your grandfather was born in ??
and maybe you should start your own thread naming your grandfather ( not if he is still alive )
his date of birt etc and maybe we can find him

Hi,
I find 2 links re Snarski, although without von but still nobles family, read about "von" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Von

http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murdelio
Murdelio is a heraldical stamp for few families (also Snarski), came from Croatia with a knight in 1450.

Snarski family also used Ciolek  (if Snarski's family was somehow connected with king Stanislaus Poniatowski = there is your connection).

Cannot find anything re Kupecki (in gail..... there is a Kupiecki  (maybe in your case "i" was dropped?

I thank everyone for their help not only for me but the many others trying to break down walls on their tree.

After doing more research I have found Peter Sznarski was not born to Roman but to Jakub Sznarski and his wife Anna Krupecka in Radzyn Chelminski in 1837, despite certificates having Roman as his father. The parents were married that same year, but not sure of who their parents were.

Where would I enquire to send for a birth certificate from this area, Radzyn Chelminski?

Many thanks
Lyn

Radzyn Chelminski = Rehden in german
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radzy%C5%84_Che%C5%82mi%C5%84ski

The EZAB in Berlin should have records from the period you are looking for
https://ezab.de/english/index.html

Rehden is listed on their parish register

This polish site is in progress of publishing the records of Radzyń Chełmiński
baptisms and marriages 1792-1845

I donīt know when the records will be going online. You could try mailing them

https://www.genealogiawarchiwach.pl/archiwum-front?locale=en
start browsing and then enter Sznarski on the left

Jacobus Sznarski , Anna Krupicka are listed

Registry offices started up in about 1874.

There are a few records online for Peterīs siblings, have you got them?
