Hi Cando,

I still think there is a connection.
I have a parish record of a birth of Emma Claridge to Louisa Claridge in 1807 in Brington with no mention of the fathers name.
Emma's mother (?) Louisa Claridge married my direct ancestor in Brington Northamptonshire & had a son William who came out to Australia in 1852 ie.  they are half siblings.  Louisa's husband died early & she remarried several times & I have her in the 1841 UK Census living with her current husband and her 'housekeeper' Emma Harrison in Surrey.
I know that Emma Claridge married Christopher Harrison 25/6/1829 in Brington Northamptonshire by banns with the witnesses being Thomas Faulkner & Martha Harrison.  They had a son Christopher in 1830.
Does any of this sound familiar?

Sorry Pippin there is no connection with your family.

I am simply one of the many 'chatters who help others with their research.

My great great grandmother Louisa was born in 1836.  I have her on the 1841 and 1851 census with her parents and siblings.   The photo was taken c1860 in Melbourne.

Cheers
Cando

Hi,
I haven't been on for awhile (too busy/ flu and other asstd things happening.)
Pippin - I believe we may have a connection. I am a descendant of Emma Claridge and Christopher Harrison and have been struggling to find info on them. I have their marriage date and in separate places in 1841 & 1851 censuses, plus the births and deaths of numerous children.
The stumbling block has been the info that Emma supplied on the immigration record as she lists her father as Thomas (Northants) and mother as Louisa residing in London. I haven't had access to the Norhants  records but someone did a look-up for me and said she was probably 'base born' (the first time I had ever heard that expression!!)
I would be happy for you to contact me privately (I haven't figured out how to do that!)
I have Christopher's lineage back another couple of generations but got nowhere with the Emma line.
I'd love to have photos of both E & C as I have photos of other GG-g'parents.

Cheers ;D

Eden this may help you with using the personal message system.

I think Pippin needs to make another post before she can use it.

Good luck.

There are digitised files [Letters of Administration] at PROV for Edward James [known as James] PALMER and his widow Ruth Rhonda PALMER [Will] of Glenferrie.

Cando

Hi, I've been reading through these exchanges with interest, and the link given in the quoted post has been referred to by others, but for the life of me, I can't get it to go to anything like the interesting info that others have referred to. Is there somewhere where you have to use a log-in or something? I just can't see it, so would love a little extra help. Thanks!

Hi Annabellemariamaud,
   welcome to rootschat  :)

No you don't have to login or anything.

That link takes you to a search "form" where you can fill in name etc

   Type in Palmer
              Edward
and year of death 1889

That should take you to a new page with
Edward J Palmer carpenter Windsor .....  More
Click on more

That should take you to a page with his name etc and down the bottom
VPRS_28_P2_LINK    Find this file in our catalogue

Click on Find this file in our catalogue

This should take you to a page where at the bottom  it gives you an option of "View digital item"

Click on View digital item(and wait patiently  ;D) and an image of the will is displayed on screen

regards,
   Ros

Thank you SO much for the steps, Ros - it was a great help. PROV isn't a site I've had any previous experience with, so I wasn't at all sure I was "doing it right". In fact, I'd previous got as far as the form summarising the details of EJP's death, but every time I tried to "view file" something had a fit, and I'd end up back at the previous page, or lost off in some area which seemed entirely irrelevant. All worked beautifully just now, and I am printing off the original document as we speak. Fascinating stuff. Again, thank you so much for your help.  :D

A pleasure  :)
I certainly had problems when I first looked for a will.  ;D

By the way when you get to the step where it is has these links like
VPRS_28_??_LINK  find this file in our catalogue
there are usually 2 or 3 possibilities but when you follow them not all have been digitised so you don't always get the option of view digitised item.  I think there is always at least one that has been digitised.

regards,
   Ros

Thanks heaps! I've managed to complete both Edward James & Ruth Rhoda Palmer, as well as most of their children. I have a request about a grandchild, but I'll post that as a separate topic, now, as I know this post was originally about Ruth Rhoda. Bless you all - this help has made my efforts SO much easier. <3
