Hello Papers Past.

A BIG thank you from me too. Days on end in libraries pooring over print and film, under flickering fluorescent lights, that my eyes object to, are rapidly becoming a thing of the past. GREAT !

Access in short bursts, from the comfort of my home, suits me.

Hi everybody -

We've got the next batch of Auckland Star coming online soon, we haven't confirmed the exact launch date, but it is very close. The new data goes up to the end of 1926, I'll post here when it's live. It looks like it's going to be quite a hectic year for releases for us, particularly in the next few months. Enjoy!

Rocking ...   :)

Hello Papers Past.

You may like to review the indexing for the clip below. Search Subject "John HANKS" auto indexing should probably have read "John BANKS"

Hi ALan
I'm sure we all find similar examples everyday..but correction is not part of the process

Paperspast, has a system like the Australian Trove ever been considered where corrections could be made?
Bye
Althea

Well said Althea
paperspast beats Trove in my opinion- I'm just grateful to have access to such a wealth of information :)

Hi Fresh Fields -

Looks like the optical character recognition has missed a letter there. This does happen quite a bit, due to typographic errors/bad fonts/ink spots/etc, ultimately because OCR is imperfect in allowing for these things. It's enough to provide a pretty serviceable search facility across the texts, but it does have errors. However, this leads me into Althea's question...

We have indeed been investigating a way to correct these errors for a while. We've tested a system, it works just fine, but we've had a lot of other work on our plates that has delayed this. I'm a bit embarrassed, because I was hoping we would have been able to deliver this by now - we get so many emails about it, and it is something we've been talking for a while.

It will happen. It will!
