Hi Mackiwi - it's on our list and coming up soon, you should see it within the next few months, early-1860's to mid-1910's.

Sorry about that - eventually it will be, but for now the issues up to 1915 are within our means.

Hi everyone - we put out a press release last night, which some of you may have seen, but most of you probably haven't yet...no matter! The press release announced the titles we will be putting online across the next 12 months as a result of our collaborative program. These are the titles that are going online that various community groups have nominated, on the basis that they have pitched in to help us with costs.
Keep in mind that there are other titles going online over the next year outside of this list too, and we've already talked about some of those here and there (eg The Press, Thames Advertiser), but I thought some of you might like to see this list as well.

Without further ado, copied from the press release:

Akaroa Mail: ca. 8000 pages from 1921-1939
Lyttelton Times: ca. 3,500 pages from 1862-1865
Manawatu Daily Times: ca. 5500 pages from pre-1900 and from 1906-1908
Manawatu Evening Standard: ca. 8000 pages from pre-1900 and from 1906-1910
Horowhenua Chronicle: ca. 11,000 pages from 1910-1920
Bay of Plenty Beacon: ca. 7000 pages from 1939-1945
Hutt News: ca. 5000 pages from 1934-1945
Northern Advocate: ca. 12,000 pages from 1921-1925 (pending permission from copyright owner)
Waikato Times: ca. 4000 pages from 1872 and from 1887-1892
Westport Times: ca. 2000 pages from 1875-1878

A further two titles will be offered the opportunity to have pages microfilmed over the next six months and then digitised in the following financial year:

    Hutt Valley Independent
    Upper Hutt Weekly Review

It has been fantastic seeing these papers coming to Papers Past, and I'd like to thank all those people who have ever gone to their local library and hassled asked them to consider putting their material up on PP. We'd love to run this initiative again in 2012, so for those of you keen to see specific newspapers, keep going to your local library and keep hassling kindly requesting that they get in touch with us about digitising their microfilms!
