Where is Great Winchester Street WC2

Hi can any body help?
I have the following family returning from Rangoon Burma arriving in London aboard the Kemmendine on 12th May 1930: Thomas Robert Salmon; Ethel Salmon; Barbara Salmon; and Dennis Salmon. The father Thomas Robert Salmon must have returned to Burma as he returned to England a second time arriving in London on 2nd June 1936 aboard the Pegu.
On both passenger lists they give their residence in England as 3-4 Great Winchester Street London WC2.
Can somebody tell me where Great Winchester Street is or was and what would have been at that address in 1930 &1936? Was it a private house; a hotel; or a bank?  The only Great Winchester Street I can find on Google maps is near Liverpool Street Station but I presume that is not WC2, or have I miss read the passenger list.

WC2 means West City Two and is not W2. The Financial area. Gt winchester St which is near Liverpool St and Bank was mostly offices and I worked thereabouts in the 60's at Western Union Intl.

I suspect a simple error on the forms - Great Winchester Street was in EC2, not WC2

Thanks for your advice; do you have any idea how I can find what was at that address in 1930 and 1936. It looks to me as though it could have been a bank or an office that they used as an address until they found a permanent address.

Ideally I would like to know if they stayed in England or did they emigrate again

The results give you an idea of the sort of offices there in the 1930's.

Thanks for both of your replies. I have concluded that the address they gave on the passenger list was of an Agent that could be used to make contact with the family whilst they were in England and not an address where they lived, if in fact they actually stayed in England and did not return to Burma.

I have had this problem with other members of the Audley family when they returned to England.
I will have to do a bit more research to try and Identify if they remained in England oe emigrated again

Brian, My family had their offices in 3&4 Great Winchester Street. We were merchants involved in trading british goods.What was your connection?

I know it's an old thread. 

I just wanted to say thank you, in case any previous posters are looking. I have just discovered a somewhat mysterious ancestor named as a trustee of a company for what we would call an IPO, it looks like, in 1862, whose address is given as 4 Great Winchester Street, E.C.

This thread, which I found using Google, saved me a lot of bumbling around looking for what that address was!
