Marriage in Uffculme
« on: Saturday 04 August 12 16:00 BST (UK) »
Hello Devon board

Please can someone check a name in a marriage?   Mary WELCH married in August 1702 either John Radford YOUNG or John Young RADFORD. There are two differing transcriptions on two different websites.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks Pels, I've had a look at those.  It would be useful if I knew Devon at all but I don't.   :(
There's another John Radford marriage 21/4/1704 to Mary Morris, I think in Oakford.  Maybe some of those children belong to that couple.
Is Oakford anywhere near Uffculme?

A big fat help is needed I think to sort out the John surname - Young or Radford.

I grew up near Uffculme and have never heard of Oakford. I just looked it up and it's on the way to Bampton, so it's a good half hour's drive from Uffculme.

Hi I'm a newbie first time I came on here ages ago I felt a tad daunted and couldn't get to grips with it so gave it a big miss, 2nd time tonight, found Berlin Bob thanks Bob for your quick and easy guide.

RADFORDS IN DEVONSHIRE:- I saw a message from Notts chick asking about a Young John Radford & a Mary Welch they are part of my family tree and would like to help her and others if I can, I found a source on Ancestry for a Young John Radford and Mary Welch which will eventually lead to Robert Radford born c1650 in Uffculme Devon and Rebecca ( Rebekah ) Dulin also c1650 in Uffculme which is where I have got to so far. Haven't had time to follow up on my research but will soon be able to pursue Robert & Rebecca, If any one can help me too it would be appreciated. Regards Dave

Hi Notts chick we have a family tree connection, I have a young John Radford and a Mary Welch in my family tree, I saw a message you had put on Roots chat months ago but didn't know how to contact you then,  Ive found you at last. I know I can't put my email address on here, but would like to help you if that's OK, most of my family came from in and around Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire, my grand father George Radford born 1894 was the son of Samuel Ishmael Radford, George married Eliza Hollingworth, there is too much to tell you here, I only found out in 2006 that my grand father had 7 brothers and a sister which we didn't know anything about, I employed a genealogist to help find my 3x gt grand father Thomas Radford born 1797 & his family, she helped me all the way back and discovered that my Radford's migrated from Uffculme in Devon  I am a direct descendant of a Robert Radford born c1650, my family tree is on Ancestry, contact / Text:- Dave on (*)
