I am hoping to obtain a copy of my grandfather's will.  He died within the past 50 years and I wondered how I would apply for this and to where?  Is it possible to obtain details online?

The on-line wills do not cover the past 50 years. As I understand it, the wills are kept by the Probate Office for a period of time, after which they are sent to PRONI. PRONI have the indexes up to 1944 on-line. After that date, I think you need to call in or get in touch with them to see the paper copy.

Probably best to e-mail them first to ensure I have my facts correct. http://www.proni.gov.uk/

hi
i have been able to look at wills at the court house in derry. bishop st.  not sure what area they cover, but certainly co. londonderry and parts of donegal.  if you are local give them a ring to check what they have. they keep the more recent ones, sometimes in full  or sometimes just the index books. that is the calendar of wills books.  but i have been able to search the large dusty volumes of the full will.  they have no table, just put them on the floor and they let you look over them. each time they tell me that those books should really be up at proni, but they never got around to it. like i said. give them a ring first, as it is over a year since i have been up with them. it is the wills and probate office bishop st, not sure of the tel no. hope this might help, margymore,
