Rutherglen cemetery
« on: Monday 30 July 12 19:42 BST (UK) »
Hey rootschatters

My ancestors lived in rutherglen from what I gather the 1700s to the 1800s.

What I want to know is, Wer there burial grounds in the 1700s and if so, does anyone know what the local burial ground for rutherglen would be?

Thanks

Paul

Hello Paul, more lair lists than actual headstones but here goes;
#26  James Cross and William Reid 1852

#27  William Reid Jnr.

#77 Thomas Reid .In memory of /Caroline Thompson/ who died... April 1863/ aged 1 year and 8 months.

Lair Lists;

553-557  A.Reid (left town)
1075-1077 D Reid (these apply to headstones 26 and 27.
1219-1293 D.Reid
1215-1218  David Reid
476-477 John Reid
432-434 Mrs Reid
678-681  R.Reid
1078-1080 R.Reid
941-945 Thos. Reid
1119-1122 William Reid

Might not be much help Paul but get back to me if you want to exchange info on Rutherglen Reids. I go back to a marriage of William Reid and Jean Robertson in Rutherglen in the 1790's. He was my 4xgreat grandfather.

Hi Baird.

Well, how strange .....

William Reid married to jean robetson was also my 4 x gr grandfather!!

Which obviously means we are distantly related along the lines.

William had a son Thomas, who's is my 3 x gr grandfather, Thomas then also ha son Thomas who is my 2 x gr grandfather who had a son Angus, who is my gr grandfather, and then Angus had son William, who is my grandfather.

I'm really hope that some of the graves in rutherglen are our mutual ancestors.

Kind regards

Paul
