re the Blewitt's
I'm just back from my few days away, and am catching up on whats happening on the site, etc.
As for the Blewitt's, I knew them very well, and I know exactly where the shop was, in fact the two of them.
Nellie Blewitt ran the smaller shop in Baker Street, the larger shop/storeroom was in Dalgleish Court, which was better known as 32 Baker Street. I used to go to the house in Melville Terrace, very big grand house, which is still there.
Nellie lived there which was her fathers house, she had married a man called Wingate and they had a son Jim who was at the Allan's school with me. Jimmy Wingate later joined the Police and went to Canada, in the 60's.
I can remember the Blewitt's very well, in fact a cousin called Blewitt got in touch with me a few years back, and I think her son has a pub in Edinburgh. I would need to check up on that again.
I'll look at my stirling collection of pics and see if I can turn up any old pics of the shop in Baker Street or St.Mary's Wynd, but I can't promise.
