Loving all this, thanks so much. My grandfather died when I was 3, my grandmother when I was 9. My parents are also long gone, I'm not trying to depress you! Sorry, what I meant was, there's noone to ask, and like everyone else I could kick myself for not asking the questions when I could, now family ask me and I realise how little I know.

The Godfrey Edition map: Lancashire sheet 113.04, Allerton 1905, will show you the road with half a dozen  side roads of terraced houses, a couple of larger houses in own grounds, and fields.
The reverse has an extract from Gore's directory of 1906, with occupations of a dozen or more householders and a description of the area.
You can find the publishers online.
