Internet Explorer Notice?
« on: Thursday 26 July 12 21:57 BST (UK) »
I keep getting a yellow notice every single time I click the mouse to change the page
   It says
"A website wants to open web content using this programon your computer"
Its driving me crazy, as no matter what I enter on this notice I cannot stop it coming up.
I had conduit malware on my pc a while back, thougt I was rid of it.

Could it still be hanging around.   Since that I have changed from Firefox  to BT Yahoo,
and now IE, but no matter what I use this notice is still coming up.
Anyone help please?   Dolly  (with very sparce technics)

Hi Dolly,

Sounds like Malware to me trying to use your computer for other things. Your computer keeps blocking it (with those messages) but there could still be something going on in the background.

What antivirus software are you using? Do a scan with that and also download both Trend Micro Housecall and Kaspersky Free Virus Scanner and run full scans on both. Tell me what each of these finds and if it gives you the option, delete anything it finds.

Unfortunately one suite no longer fits all so you have to run lots of different scans to be 100% sure you're not infected. But I would be interested to hear what antivirus software is installed on your computer.

Thanks for this Jack, I will have  a go at what you suggest.
I am also getting Blue  notices in bottom righthand corner about high memory usage, and discs or something to that effect.  Think my PC has gone hay wire.  Will try to get back,
                                           Cheers Dolly

Hi Dolly,

Download CCleaner while you're at it and run the disk cleanup and delete the files it finds, then do the registry cleanup,

Then go to tools, uninstall and uninstall any program's you no longer use. That should speed up your computer a bit and remove the blue notice you mention.

Try some of the other virus scanners I suggested because they might find something.

But certainly do what I say with CCleaner because that should make a massive difference and may possibly remove the yellow box problem as well.

If you need any help with anything I've suggested or there's any other problems on your machine, ask and I will try to advise. Oh, and keep me updated with how you get on.

You're going to be busy with all these extra things to download!!!

Jack

This message need not necessarily be malware.

HTML5, which is the incoming standard for creating web pages, can store information on your PC in a number of ways.  Almost all web browsers that support HTML5 will, by default, ask the user if they wish to allow this information to be stored.

The message you are getting sounds like an HTML5 page simply requesting to store some information.

This information can be looked upon as a sort of super-cookie.  Nothing more sinister than that.

Hi

Microsoft lists a problem updating Adobe Flash Player / IE / VISTA
(You haven't said what you are running)

Quickest way to the microsoft page is to google
"A website wants to open web content using this program"
(There are also other results you could browse)

Hi Ray & MHG,    I am IE/ Vista Ray , so this well might be the problem as I was prompted to download
Adobe, but I kept getting message download was unsuccessful.

We reversed back to Firefox, and the better half did some techy stuff which got me going again, but am now getting windows alerts in bottom right hand corner? otherwise I am getting around fairly well.
Someone was going to come over and look at the PC, but never showed yet!

mgh, I did not think the notices were malware, but thought that the Conduit malware that had
infiltrated my PC some time ago, and which we thought were rid might still be hanging around as that notice was flying around at all times, and I just could not work with it .   Hope this has clarified the situ,
I will do as Ray suggests and take a look at the Microsoft site, Thank you all for suggestions,,
                        Dolly .
