Wakefield-West Parade Wesleyan Burials
« on: Thursday 26 July 12 18:15 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have found Gg Gt Grandmother Harriet Northcott buried in 1882 at West Parade Wesleyan Chapel. Looking at Street view the chapel no longer appears to be there. However  there appears to be a burial ground behind West Parade and Thornhill St Wakefield. Would this have been the burial ground for the chapel. Again on street view only a few gravestones appear to be standing. I assume the rest have been removed. Does anyone know if  there were  any transcriptions recorded. - Long Shot I know!

Thanks in Advance

Farlington

Hello
There was a Weslyan  Chapel ,  I used to go to it as a child,  the churchyard  was on Thornhill
street,  but  around   1960,      they   moved the graves  and made it into  a small   park
with seats,  although  there is a few headstones   made into   a path,  next time  i am down there will
look to see if your ancester  is one of   them,  they are  still readable,,  heres hopeing   ::)

I think there's a transcript at the Wakefield office of the West Yorkshire Archive Service.

Hi, I too have just found that my 4th great grandfather, A Charles Appleyard was buried here 25 Oct 1870, Section B Grave No. 370. Whilst I am sorry the actual burial site is not there I would like to know if the gravestone is still present.

Hi Thanks for your input. If anyone is visiting the West Yorkshire Archive Service Id appreciate a quick look see. Its a 470 mile round trip for me so its a bit of a hike.

Hi, I have just searched ancestry UK for you and hope this is the correct match:

Harriett Northcott, Born abt 1848. Buried 18 Dec 1882, aged appx 34, in west parade wesleyen chapel. Reel No. WC27. Buried, according to records of the church, in Section A, Grave Number 4.
Whilst this graveyard is no longer there I hope this helps you.

Adrian thanks for that, Thats the one, I have a long list of family burials and very few headstones, very frustrating. There is something quite satisfying to see the gravestone of a family member you have researched. A tangible link with the past!

regards

I've had a look at the West Parade MIs, but couldn't find anything for Harriett Northcott or Charles Appleyard.
