trueman-fifeshire
« on: Wednesday 25 July 12 12:05 BST (UK) »
I am trying to confirm the maiden name of the mother of Janet Trueman (b 1820/21 Hillend Fifeshire).

I believe she married Thomas Trueman at Linlithgo 30th September 1820, but have her name variously as
                                   Janet Rutherford
                                       "    Roxburgh
                                       "    Drummond
                                       "    Potter

I know thatJanet Trueman (1820/21) had 3 sisters Euphemia, Rachel and Margaret
She married twice:-
!st marriage to Robert Amos 1836 produced Jessie, Margaret, Helen Thomas
2nd marriage to John Steven 1852 produced Robert, Euphemia, Rachel.
............. but information before this is very hazy.

Hi baldybain

This looks a likely entry for Janet's birth entry, and very late christening it seems https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTGN-JQ7

And the use of the surname Rutherford that you mentioned https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY7Y-HM5 - note marriage/banns date is after the birth of Janet in late 1819. Always the possibility that this Janet may be different Janet?

Have you followed through young Janet b. 1819 to a possible death cert (if in Scotland)?

A lot of background searches and info from an old post on another forum www.talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11470&start=0  Not sure if you are connected to the post and/or have already come across it.

Certainly looks a tricky family to follow! Have you checked death certs, as suggested on the last post on TS, for Thomas Trueman and wife Janet?

Hi MonicaL
Thank you so much for your time and efforts.  I was excited to see your reply and found much to interest me - especially in the Family Search documents you kindly included.

Though I was keeping an open mind, your theory that the Janet Trueman born 1819 at Carriden may be the wrong one is supported by my research to date.
The Janet Trueman I think most likely to be my ancestor (referring to censuses) seems to be the Janet Trueman b1820/21 at Hillend Fife - though birth details remain elusive.  If correct, then she died at 4, Macintyre St. Glasgow in 1872.  As you say, I need to confirm her birth details,

I was also grateful for the link you provided to talkingscot forum.  I am new to this game but although his post was some time ago, I will try to contact mikokunsaki and also follow some of his pointers through the maze of possible Maiden Surnames - RUTHERFORD, DRUMMOND, ROXBURGH, MCkAY and POTTER for young Janet Trueman's mother!

Thanks again Monica
