After experiences with Virgin and their included virus scan and fireware, I removed it from my computer and replaced it with Avast. Not for verfy long. After a few weeks I decided that AVG was better and have stayed with it since.

It's not something simple like the Autoplay setting?

ControlPanel>Hardware&Sound>Autoplay>5th entry (assumed W7)

Hi Jen. Long time no speak.

I have tried several times to close Avast and install the disc but no avail.

I am beginning to think there is a problem with the disk. (I have this problem before with this disk but it was just dirty. Perhaps it is past its sell by date) Me thinks I may take the disk into a pc store and get it checked out before sending it back to FFHS - again.

Please acknowledge when a restorer works on your photos, it can take hours for them to work their magic

Please scan at 300dpi minimum to help save the restorers eyesight.

I had the same problem installing NBI (2nd. Ed.) & had to log in as administrator & run the prog. in compatiblity mode.

Hi Jim

My user ID has adminstrator status. I may conatct the FFHS again. I'm afraid I don't fully understand compatibility mode. I have IE8. Though I noticed recently that I had the Chrome icon appear on my desktop.

When I received my pc back from repair I had IE6 but the system automatically downloaded 8 whilst I was away from my pc. That is when I got the chrome icon, though it is not set up as my browser. I didn't get on well with it before as there were some images from the genealogy sites that wouldn't open properly, so I deleted it.

I will have a look and see what is going on.

Though personally I have had no problems with installing such disks, I have often wondered at the apparent state of some of these disks when sold at a variety of exhibitions.

I purchased my disc directly from FFHS. I had trouble loading it once before. I sent it back, they cleaned it and returned it to me. Oh the shame.

I have reinstalled my FTM disc since my pc was returned to me by disabling Avast but that was before chrome downloaded itself. I have deleted chrome now. So I will have another go - when I find the time.

Compatability mode only works with Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions.

It works in all versions of Vista, but you have to disable UAC.
