Thanks KHP,

I guess next stop will be his probate to see if that has where he was born in it.

It was the thought that counts KHP. A death notice is better than nothing I guess

Some background:
KORORAREKA was the original name for the rather wild and almost lawless trading settlement that became (in 1844) the township of RUSSELL in the Bay of Islands. It is in the (old) provincial area of Auckland.

Kororareka was famous/infamous in the South Pacific as a 'den of iniquity'. Whaling and sealing vessels used to use the port for food replenishment and 'r&r' for the crew! There were a lot of pubs ...

Best wishes
Elli

Re the parentage of Hugh MacKey, is it a silly question to ask if you have obtained a printout of his death registration? Maybe I missed this when scanning through the posts? By 1898 there should hopefully be some useful information recorded.

No i haven't yet but would be a good idea for my records and would have ages of the 4 sons and 4 daughters.
Off to do that now :D

Edit: ordered death printout and will get it via email. Much easier to read that way as well ;D
